There are numerous ways you can get to Eshamy Bay Lodge in Prince William Sound, Alaska:
Take the train to Whittier:
You can take the magnificent Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Whittier, enjoying some stunning views along Turnagain Arm and through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, the longest (2.5 miles) highway tunnel in North America. This tunnel is one lane only and is shared by cars and trains travelling in both directions, alternating directions every half hour.
Train schedule:
Daily from May 1st through September 30th:
Departs Anchorage 10am - arrives Whittier 12:05pm
Departs Whittier 6:54pm - arrives Anchorage 9:15pm
Train fees: Anchorage to Whittier $65 one way ($130 round trip)
Drive to Whittier:
Or you can drive from Anchorage (or anywhere in the state for that matter) to Whittier, through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel.
Tunnel times are:
From the Anchorage side to Whittier, traffic runs every hour on the half hour from 5:30am to 10:30 pm.
From the Whittier side to Anchorage, traffic runs every hour on the hour from 6am to 11pm.
Allow at least an hour to get from Anchorage to the tunnel and try to be at the tunnel at least 10 minutes before it opens. (Hours are slightly less in the winter so check their website for updates.)
Tunnel fees: $12 per private vehicle round trip.
Parking fees in Whittier: $10 a day / 24 hour period.
Take a bus to Whittier and avoid parking costs:
Alaska Transportation provides a daily shuttle for less than you can do it yourself!
Departs Anchorage at 7am, arrives Whittier at 8:45am
Departs Anchorage at 12:30pm, arrives Whittier at 2:45pm
Departs Whittier at 9am, arrives Anchorage at 11:30am
Departs Whittier at 2:45pm, arrives Anchorage at 4:30pm
Bus fees: $45 per person one way.
Fly from Anchorage to Eshamy Bay Lodge in a floatplane:
This service is available May 1st through October 20th from Lake Hood in Anchorage.
For groups of 3 or 6 persons, it is $340 per person round trip. Although this is a more expensive way of getting to Eshamy Bay Lodge, it can be a beautiful way to see Prince William Sound.

Aquetec LLC - Whittier Water Taxi will pick you up in Whittier and take you on a scenic cruise through Passage Canal passing bird rookeries, heading south through Culross Passage passing Picturesque Cove. You’ll see numerous impressive glaciers and you’ll be surrounded by rugged granite mountains covered in spruce and hemlock rain forests. We’ll pass by Port Nellie Juan and Crafton Island before entering Eshamy Bay. We’ll tie up to our dock for your convenience.
